Ms. Edna Ngowi describes herself as a woman with a heart of gold. She is a Tanzanian health practitioner based in the United States of America.
Back in her motherland, she has become largely known for educating the masses about health issues through her Instagram social media account @ednangowi. By18th April 2020, she had almost 16,000 followers.
This is an activity she started last year with gusto for the public good. She regularly posts important health knowledge and often engages with her followers on what to do and what not to improve personal health.
By sharing stay healthy tips and knowledge she has become an inspirational figure back in her motherland. She is becoming a household name for urging Tanzanians to take preventive health more seriously and keep healthy.
She has been providing at zero cost correct and valid information on what people need to do to stay healthy. All one has to do is follow her Instagram page.
An instagramer who goes by the name Ndeloh Elvis Prisly writes that notes that Ms many of Edna’s posts very educative and inspiring. For Wilfred Chimosa, he is of the opinion that the health topics Ms. Edna has been fronting are extremely useful. He was commenting on a post about trichomoniasis.
The Goldenwoman.org is of the opinion that Ms. Edna is a changemaker, thanks to her free spirit of volunteering to educate the public on credible health issues and available solutions. She has been able to inspire a cross-section of Tanzanian netizen to take preventive health seriously. She is a woman to watch. She might be one of the biggest movers and shakers in Tanzania in the coming years.
In the wake of coronavirus pandemic, the moment it was reported in China, she started urging Tanzanians to take precautions. In America, she is one among many healthcare workers at the frontline, in providing services to patients with COVID 19.
It is important to use protective gear in such care, but still, it is a risky venture, as there are many stories of healthcare workers who have passed away after getting the virus from their patients.
According to The Guardian, “America’s healthcare workers are dying. In some states, medical staff account for as many as 20% of known coronavirus cases.”
But Ms. Edna is put and resolute about the way forward. “Yes, healthcare workers, like me, have a duty to save lives. We must offer our services, it is a cardinal duty. We are as scared as other citizens of the world about Coronavisrus….but we cannot let fear deter us from doing the best to save lives. We have to tackle the menace from the frontline,” she says.
The best support the people can offer doctors, nurses and all health professionals is to take precautions so as not to get infected, so as to prevent overwhelming the healthcare systems across the world, she notes.
Recently she teamed up with Tanzania’s topmost female music artist, Faustina Charles Mfinaga aka Nandy, in a live video conversation (Instagram), about the coronavirus. Edna urged the almost 30,000 Nandy fans who had joined the conversation, to be extra careful.
“The most important thing is to be careful…take precautions so that you don’t get infected. No Tanzanians should ignore this pandemic,” she notes, adding that awareness is key to self-care.
Staying at home, social distance, body cleanliness (especially frequent washing of hands) and ensuring a balance diest with emphasis for fruits and vegetables to build up stronger immunity are all very important, she notes.
According to Edna, oranges are plenty in Tanzania, and masses should consume them more to build immunity. Many people don’t like the stay at home ‘business’ as they are used to working, she says, for those who can, it is the best way to keep the virus at bay, by halting its spread.
Let people stay at home, learn new skills, exercise and make sure they stay healthy and they join the world to fight the pandemic, she says.
Ms. Edna one of the very active members of a group of Tanzanians abroad who have been raising funds to purchase health insurance for needy children being raised by single mothers.
Being a woman with a heart of gold means, Ms. Edna is honest, good, compassionate, loving and kind, yet unique in her own way. For the women with a heart of gold, it’s in their nature to be kind, selfless, and caring, but they don’t take kindly those who are abusive and those who take their virtues for granted.
Ms. Edna is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program (BSN) graduate, Stark State College, Ohio, USA.
